James A. Schriemer is Of Counsel at Conlin, McKenney & Philbrick, P.C., where he concentrates on corporate representation of privately held businesses, transactional matters, venture financing, private placement of securities, and commercial real estate. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, James brings an unusual combination of credentials to the practice: before joining CMP Law in 1987, he served as a senior attorney at a major corporation and later as the chief executive officer of a national telecommunications management company.
Legal Counsel and C-Suite Operator
That dual perspective, legal counsel and C-suite operator, shapes how James advises business clients today. He has sat in the seat his clients occupy. He understands capital structure, operational risk, and the pressure of growth decisions not as abstractions but as problems he has solved firsthand. His transactional practice covers the full arc of a business relationship: formation, financing, acquisition, real estate, and securities compliance. At CMP Law, James works alongside the firm’s business and corporate law and real estate teams.
Recognition and Teaching
James has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in both corporate law and securities/capital market law. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Lawrence Technological University (2001-2003) and as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, bringing the same practical, experience-driven perspective to the classroom that he brings to client work.
