Karl R. Frankena was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1964 and served as law clerk on Michigan Court of Appeals from 1965 to 1967.
Mr. Frankena has been actively involved in community organizations and was a founding member and the first chairperson of the Huron Valley Group of the Sierra Club, has served as a member, chair and secretary of the Ann Arbor Township Planning Commission, and as a director of the Legacy Land Conservancy.
