Albert L. Balewski

Albert L. Balewski is a Shareholder at Conlin, McKenney & Philbrick, P.C., who brings more than 15 years of legal experience, including over 10 years as in-house counsel, to advising business owners, executives, and entrepreneurs on transactions, employment matters, and day-to-day operational legal needs

Before joining CMP Law, Albert served as in-house counsel for national private equity-backed businesses and a regional hospital system. That experience gives him a practical understanding of the competing priorities business leaders face and enables him to deliver advice that is both strategic and business-minded.

Albert’s transactional practice includes business formations and structuring, mergers and acquisitions, private equity-funded business sales, and business succession planning. He also drafts and reviews a wide range of commercial agreements, including purchase and supply agreements, distributor contracts, development agreements, and service agreements. In addition, he advises clients on transactions involving regulated industries, including liquor licensing, franchise matters, healthcare, and private securities offerings.

On the employment side, Albert advises clients on handbooks and workplace policies, employment agreements, independent contractor and consulting agreements, equity compensation (including equity grants, long term incentives, and phantom equity), and employee onboarding and separations. He also counsels clients on compliance with employment laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.

Because of his experience across both transactional and employment matters, clients often turn to Albert as “outside in-house” counsel for guidance on how legal risk may affect broader business decisions and operations.

Albert earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Toledo College of Law, where he served on the Law Review Executive Committee as Executive Articles Editor. He holds a B.A. from Western Michigan University and is admitted to practice in Michigan, Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
